Dunipace Tournament - Sunday 27th July
Yoker 1 - 3 Bo'ness Dunipace 4 - 0 Carnoustie
With 2 Friendly games and a charity match already under their belts Derek Barron's new look Dunipace side came into the annual George Hunter Tournament full of energy. With last years winners Carnoustie starting the defence of their
title against fellow East Region side Bo'ness in the later (15:30) kick off, Dunipace entertained local rivals Yoker in the early (12:45) tie.
Dunipace started the game brightly, playing some of the best football of Derek Barron's time in charge and looked a step ahead of the visitors in their preparation for the new season. Warner Devlin gave the pace the lead midway through the
first half and Barry Rogor added a double after the break to seal a comfortable win for the home side. In the later kick off the game was fairly even until a mistake by the Bo'ness goalkeeper allowed the Carnoustie forward in to score and "The Gowfers"
added a second when Robertson headed in at the back post. Bo'ness pulled one back before half time through a fine finish from Andy Scott, but a second half penalty saw Carnoustie clinch the game 3-1.
In Sunday's early game Yoker passed up a series of excellent chances and were duelly punished by a Bo'ness side who eventually went on to win the game 3 - 1 courtesy of an own goal and one each from Colin Allison and Andy Scott.
By the time the second game kicked off at 15:30 the sun was beating down on Westfield and with this being the third game in 4 days for Dunipace you could have been forgiven for expecting a little tiredness to creep in. Credit to the Pre-season preparations
thus far and the youthfulness of the squad this was never an issue and again Dunipace played some wonderful football in a game that saw them score 4 wonderfully crafted goals.

The first, from new signing Marty Wright, saw MacMillan rob the striker of posession on
halfway before feeding to John McPhail. McPhail played a wonderful ball between fullback and centre half perfectly into the path of Wright who lifted over the diving keeper into the corner. The second and best goal of the tournament saw Tonner, Cairney and Wright
exchange passes several times before Cairney fed a fantastic pass through the defence and into the run of Barry Roger who slid it expertly under the keeper for 2 nil
The second half saw Dunipace continue to press strongly and substitute Pincombe set up Wright for his second of the game before Brian Grant and Alan Moffat combined from a corner to create space and deliver for David Nairn to head home the fourth. Another excellent display from
Derek Barron's men that will provide further encouragement ahead of two tough games against Cumnock and Linlithgow Rose to come this week. All connected with Dunipace will hope this is the first trophy of many for the 2008/2009 season.
