Following last weeks excellent result in the Scottish cup Dunipace came into this game looking to get their League campaign back on track following a couple of poor results that, with the run of games, felt like an
age ago.
And with the visitors St Rochs, who traded 13 goals with Dunipace in 2 league games last term coming to Westfield, those who braved the cold could be confident of seeing goals. And that was exactly as it was to turn out.
Dunipace started the game with an air of confidence of a side on a decent run, with Rodger causing problems for the visiting defence almost from the first whistle. Cairney and Wright supporting the front man from deeper areas with
McCafferty and O'Brien finding space wide, leaving the visiting defence stumped as to how to deal with the home sides advances.
And it was not to be long before the pressure led to a goal. Grant, Cullen and Rodger involved before Cairney was released on the inside left channel. Cairney kept calm under pressure, before sliding the ball across the
box perfectly into the run of Wright who finished superbly from 12 yards, high to the keepers right hand side.
It was two only moments later when Rodgor found himself clear in the same position before pulling back into the 6 yard box where Wright, ariving at pace, did well to improvise and turn into the net with his knee.
Dunipace were working incredibly hard, both with and without the ball and St Rochs were struggling to get into the game at all. They would however count themselves unfortunate when, in a rare attack they forced a free kick on the Dunipace left.
The ball in was met at the back post and knocked back across goal where it was headed into the net, but the referee chalked the goal off for a foul. Soft would be a good description of the foul, Dunipace would certainly have been upset had it gone against
them, but never the less a let off for the home side.
And it proved a spur for the Pace as they added a third just after the 20 minute mark. Dunipace won a corner on the left and Cairney delivered to the back post where Wright and Grant were fighting each other to head the ball in, Wright winning the battle to claim
an impressive first half hat trick.

Dunipace had several other chances in the half. Rodgor, Granet and Cairney all with good efforts but the half was to end with only 3. The only negative from the opening period a booking for Micheal Cullen for persistant fouling after only two tackles, one of which was
actually a foul on the midfielder and not the reverse. Cullen, it would seem, sufferring from his reputation given there were fouls in the first half (from other Dunipace players) far worse than anything he had committed that went unpunished.
The second half saw Dunipace start at an equally high tempo as the first and it wasn't long before the home side added a fourth. A free kick from just outside the box was played into the feet of Grant who did well to spin and fire a shot toards goal. The Visiting keeper could
only flick the ball into the air with his feet and Stephen Oates race in to head in his first goal for the club during his loan spell from East Stirlingshire. It was no more than the big centre half deserved such has been his form since the loan move.
Following this the game started to die a little, Dunipace taking the opportunity to rest a couple of players and given the work put into the game thus far naturally started to take the foot off. The home side though still looked comfortable, with Strachan in goal rarely troubled
after his heroics of last week. St Roch's though were to be given a lifeline by another controversial refereeing decision, when to everyone's bemusement the official pointed at the spot as the St Roch's forward ran across MacMillan, kicked the centre half who was standing still and went down.
A bizarre decision and one that would have angered the Dunipace bench had the game been closer. The striker stepped up and dispatched under Strachan for 4 - 1.
Again though this seemed to do nothing but spur the home side on and only minutes later they restored their 4 goal lead. Grant played in on the left of the box before slotting coolly below the keeper with his left foot. A deserved goal for teh midfielder after another excellent performance
in the middle of the park.
An that was how the game was to finish, with the only other talking point being an off the ball incident near the end. The St Roch's number 10 clearly headbutting MacMillan, who managed to keep his cool long enough for James Orr to step in and pull the pair apart, all of which went on without the match official
knowing, despite the howls of the crowd. In fairness to the offical, the incident happend more than 60 yards from play and without linesman to help out it would be nearly impossible for him to have picked it up.
Another impressive display by Dunipace and one that they will hope to take into next weeks trip to Carluke.
