Central League: Division 1

Dunipace  Dunipace 0 - 1 Thorniewood United  Thorniewood United

Thorniewood: Mullen (90)

With two wins from their opening two games Dunipace welcomed Thorniewood United to Westfield hoping to continue on the run that had seen them go unbeaten in their opening 5 competetive fixtures of the 2010/11 season.

Thorniewood started the brighter of the two sides though, enjoying the majority of possession in the opening 15 minutes of a game that saw Oates unlucky to be cautioned for the first foul of the game early on.

The stopper is one of a number of Pace players who have enjoyed a fine start to the season, but as the game ambled towards half time it took a turn for the worse for him as he was cautioned for the second time after stretching into a tackle and catching the forward. The referee, perhaps a little over zealous on the first card, had no hesitation in producing a second yellow and a red sending Dunipace down to 10 men.

While unfortunate to be dismissed for only two fouls and the first card being questionable, Dunipace could have little complaint about the second yellow as it probably was a challenge worthy of a card. Disappointing for Oates and Dunipace as it led to a backs against the wall second half for the home side.

Dunipace rallied superbly in the second 45, dealing with a man disadvantage very well and limiting Thorniewood to little in the way of goalscoring chances as they frustrated their opposition looking to grab what, at this stage, would have been a good point.

In fact, in a breakaway Dunipace could have snatched the lead as Mullen crossed from the left but the ball was just above Wright who had supported the play and was free at the back post.

As 90 minutes ticked by it looked as though the Pace had done enough to grab a point, but a long throw into the box brought about a spectacular overhead kick by Mullen and Thorniewood celebrated grabbing all 3 points with virtually the last kick of the ball.

A harsh end for Dunipace, who must now be getting slightly worried about the number of late goals being conceeded in games, with this representing the fourth game in 6 this season that the Pace have conceeded in the last 10 minutes and the third in that run that the goal has been scored on or after 90 minutes..

Cambuslang up next for Dunipace in the league, next Saturday 2:00pm at Cumbuslang.
