Central League: Second Division

Dunipace  Dunipace 2 - 1 Carluke  Carluke Rovers

Without a doubt the biggest game of this season by a distance. Carluke came to Westfield today knowing that a win would clinch the title for them. Dunipace, by contrast, knew a win was required to keep their promotion chase alive and in hoping others could do them a favour they may still have an outside chance of the league title themselves.

With the game requiring no talking up to either set of players Dunipace started at blistering pace, creating a couple of early chances in a manner that provided hope for a good performance.

And with under 20 minutes on the clock Dunipace found themselves ahead when Bryan Grant curled home a delightful free kick from 25 yards, high into the keepers right hand corner leaving the stopper with no chance of stopping it.

And the home sides blistering start continued when 5 minutes later Oates poked home a second to send the Pace fans towards half time with thoughts of a memorable win.

Carluke though were never going to give this up without a fight, with their entire season resting on this match and the prospect of going from potential champions to missing out on promotion depending on other results.

And the visitors pulled a goal back to ensure a nervy end for the home side, but one which they were able to see out to ensure that when the rest of the top 5 have finished their season they are all looking for Dunipaces' results to see where they will be in the standings.

All that is other than Blantyre, who thumped St Roch for 5 to ensure they finish the season as champions.

For Dunipace now, wins against Forth and Royal Albert are a must in the tightest of seasons that would see Carluke, playing today to become champions, miss out on promotion entirely behind Dunipace in second and Glasgow Perthshire in third, with only 2 points the difference between the top 5 sides.
